Joint operation targets pressing concerns across Rabie Ridge

City officials continue to drive the vision for responsible informal trading, and Rabie Ridge becomes one of the targeted areas.

Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), South African Police Service (SAPS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), City Power, and the Ombudsman joined forces in Rabie Ridge for a multidisciplinary operation tackling long–standing community concerns in Region A.

The initiative responded to issues raised by residents and formed part of the city’s broader effort to improve service delivery in areas needing urgent intervention.

Key concerns included informal trading, recurring power outages from illegal connections, and blocked drainage systems.

The operation began at Rabie Ridge Hall, where JMPD and SAPS delegations were deployed to affected areas. In Mayibuye, JMPD inspected informal shops, seizing non-compliant stock.

Residents welcomed the visible action, saying they were pleased to see multiple departments working together.

JRA cleaned kerb inlets to improve drainage, while the Area-Based Service Unit conducted street sweeping. City Power removed illegal electricity connections to enhance safety and protect infrastructure.

Acting regional director Macmillan Papi Telekoa attended in person, inspecting sites and engaging directly with residents.

His presence, residents said, demonstrated the city’s commitment to addressing challenges through meaningful action rather than promises.
