Rampant Midrand High strikes early to beat Curro

An early brace from Sikhanyile and a goal from Tumelo secured a win for Midrand High.

Sikhanyile Nzima netted a brace as fearsome Midrand High School humiliated Curro Thatchfield with a 3–0 win at home on May 12.

Despite Curro being the first team to get the first shot on target of the game, Midrand High dominated possession and produced multiple shots that caused the Curro defence to panic.

Sikhanyile put Midrand High ahead after 12 minutes with a fine tap in after a loop pass from midfield maestro, Pfanela Masupa, to pick Sikhanyile’s onside run.

Tumelo Ledwaba struck less than two minutes later when he controlled a loose ball inside Curro’s 18-yard box and drove the ball home in the upper corner to make it 2–0.

Curro had further chances but could not finish in the final third as some of their strikes were denied by stunning saves from Midrand goalie Bohang Moruri who looked lively throughout.

Sikhanyile sealed the victory with 10 minutes remaining of the first half, turning a couple of Curro’s defenders before poking the ball in with a back-heel following another loop pass from Pfanela.

Midrand High coach Edgar Moloko was confident his team had the maximum points in the bag and brought on a number of substitutes in the second half including Ezaad Spadonie, Liam Govender, Siyabonga Ntshingila and Hlomla Songca.

It was a disappointing second half for both teams as both had several chances to score but failed to convert any.
