Sibisi said the station has had many reports of trio crime – which comes in three categories – carjacking, truck-jacking, and business robberies. “All of these [trio crime reports] make Midrand look different when compared to other stations around the vicinity of Diepsloot, Rabie Ridge, Ivory Park, and Olievenhoutbosch in terms of your trio, property, and contact crimes. In terms of policing during roadblocks and operations, we also do stop-and-search [operations] during the roadblocks because we need to cut down the circulation of illegal firearms that are in the hands of the community,” said Sibisi.

He said that the police would maximise operations, including night operations which serve as a deterrent to crime, particularly in Glen Austin. Especially since Midrand was in the top 30 stations around the province contributing to contact and trio crimes.
When asked if it was possible to get out of the current situation, Sibisi said, “With the right attitude, it’s possible to get out of this situation. In terms of policing period, we are on the last quarter – which is the fourth one and before the end of March, we should be out of this situation.”

He said the police were doing their utmost to fight crime and vowed that they will never fail the community they are servicing.
Acting Midrand Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Angelina Selowa said during the O Kae Molao, which included the JMPD, Gauteng Traffic Police, and other stakeholders, 22 undocumented persons were arrested. Selowa said, “Other suspects were charged with non-compliance, reckless and negligent driving, and possession of drugs. The Social Crime Prevention Department distributed pamphlets with safety tips to motorists and passengers.”
