Midland Primary and High School (MPHS) Crowthorne campus was abuzz with excitement from both teachers and learners as they hosted an entrepreneur and fun day.
On September 8, the learners enjoyed a day of fun and learning outside the traditional classroom setting which involved different activities to accommodate all the learners
According to Cebo Khumalo, a teacher at the school, the purpose of the day was to provide learners with a well-deserved break from academics, and an opportunity to explore their creative and entrepreneurial sides.
“The highlight of the day was the Grade 7 Entrepreneur’s Day, where these budding business minds put their classroom knowledge into practise. The event kicked off with an inspiring assembly to recognise outstanding achievement in the recent mathematics quiz. As a token of appreciation, these bright minds were honoured with certificates and sweet treats,” said Khumalo.
She said after the assembly, other learners in different grades supported the Grade 7 entrepreneurs by purchasing a variety of items sold in their stalls.
While delicious food was on the menu, some learners showcased their artistic talent by selling handcrafted headbands, necklaces, and bracelets.
“This hands-on experience provided the Grade 7 learners with valuable lessons in entrepreneurship, including meticulous planning, budgeting, effective marketing strategies, and the power of collaboration. Afterwards, the school grounds transformed into a sports arena, with learners engaging in soccer and table tennis matches. Our younger learners from the foundation phase had a splashing good time on the water slide,” added Khumalo.
The day reached its colourful climax with a vibrant Colour Fest, where students playfully showered each other with bright hues. It turned into an entertaining game of hide and seek as educators joined the fun, attempting to dodge the playful bursts of colour.
Khumalo concluded that the day was a much-needed break which allowed learners to unwind and de-stress while learning valuable life skills.
