Former Midrand LFA top striker wins Gauteng league with Supersport United

In his maiden season, Gugulethu Nkosi managed to help Supersport United win the Gauteng Development League after scoring six goals in games.

The future of former Midrand Local Football Association (MLFA) goal poacher Gugulethu ‘Gugu’ Nkosi is on an upward trajectory.

This comes after he won the Gauteng Development League (GDL) with his current side, Supersport United’s U17 team.
Nkosi (17), from Clayville, also plays for the U19 side and joined Matsatsantsa-a-Pitori in the middle of the season early this year from MLFA champions, Neasm Academy.
This is after guiding the Academy to the MLFA triumph, having bagged an impressive 33 goals tally in 34 matches, almost a 100% scoring record. He was duly crowned Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer respectively.

The scoring feat caught the attention of united and eventually helped them clinch the GDL in style after he bagged 6 goals in 8 games.

“To be honest I never thought I would achieve such greatness but with God’s will I conquered at the end. At the moment I’m not happy with my goal tally and it seems like I might have forgotten my scoring boots at home. I am happy I managed to score 6 goals in the competitions,” said young Gugulethu.

The Grade 11 learner from Noordwyk Secondary School says he harbours ambitions of being a well-known striker full of hunger for goals. Gugulethu says he would also like to represent Bafana Bafana.

“My favourite striker locally is Peter Shalulile of [Mamelodi] Sundowns because of how he plays and positions himself. And internationally, it is Erling Haaland of Manchester City. I just really love the way he maintains his position and his movements on and off the ball. If I manage to play like him, I can bring back my old self to score goals,” he added
