Young striker signs with Supersport United

"I want to become a well known striker full of hunger for goals and also get a call up from the national team," said the young striker.

Former Neasm Academy striker Gugulethu Nkosi was a force to be reckoned with in the Midrand Local Football Association after netting 33 goals in 34 games, almost a 100% scoring record.

Neasm (17) achieved this feat in the 2022/23 season before signing for the youth division of the DStv Premier League team, Supersport United. He was duly crowned Player of the Season and Top Goal Scorer on August 12.

He said he was surprised to have received the two awards.

“I want to become a well-known striker full of hunger for goals and also get a call-up from the national team,” he said.

“To be honest, I never thought I would win the Player of the Season award but with the Top Goal Scorer award, I kept on fighting for it and also got some encouragement from my coaches and also my teammates. To me, it makes me feel like there’s more that I can do.”

Born in KZN, the Grade 11 learner from Noordwyk Secondary School currently lives with his mom Buyisile, uncle Mzwandile Nongaba and younger sister, Siphokazi in Clayville.

He said he started playing football at six years old. “I’m currently playing for Supersport United. My aspiration in football is to achieve great results and play for the biggest club in South Africa but I don’t want to end there, I also want to showcase my talent abroad for any team in Europe.”

His mom said he was an obedient child. “He knows that I want a good future for him.”
