Midrand CPF Search and Rescue member laid to rest

Deputy chairperson of the Midrand CPF Anton Van Niekerk described Alexander as someone who had a good work ethic and the right values making him a pleasure to work with.

The Midrand CPF laid to rest one of their dedicated members who served in the search and rescue team.

Jason Alexander passed away from a cardiac incident at a game reserve in Limpopo where he was training to become a game ranger.

His untimely passing has left a huge void in the community policing forum as his colleagues bid him farewell on January 22.

Midrand CPF deputy chairperson Anton Van Niekerk said Alexander played a pivotal role and was a great addition to the forum. “He was keen, focused and had a range of skills that assisted where it mattered most. He was a kind, generous, joyful, intelligent, ethical and friendly person who was always welcomed wherever he was. He contributed greatly to that organisation. He had a trained Belgian Malinois dog that he used for this purpose.”

The Midrand police leadership headed by Brigadier David Molefi Tsotsotso and Lieutenant Colonel Thabitha Nthabiseng Magowa joined members and paid their respects to the family.

Van Niekerk said the Sector 4 Crime Forum team he served with most as well as additional CPF members, together with the members from search and rescue did a stand-off at the entrance to the memorial.

“The memorial was exceptionally well attended, a testament to how great his impact was in the greater community. He will be missed by all his colleagues, and we thank him for his service. His skills within that organisation were a great asset to the role he played within the Midrand CPF. He had impeccable morals and ethics which is the right sort of values one desires for people who will partner with the Saps in crime prevention,” added Van Niekerk.

He described Alexander as a dedicated and committed first responder who played a vital role in crime prevention operations.

Tsotsotso said, “When we heard about his untimely passing, our hearts were left with heavy pain. On behalf of the station, we would like to wish Jason’s family strength as they deal with the loss of one of their family members. He will be dearly missed in the community forum as he played a critical role in crime prevention. His contribution, dedication and diligent work will be missed, and we wish his CPF colleagues to continue with their hard work to fight crime.”
