198 women graduate from the Faranani Rural Women Training Initiative

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Business Skills for South Africa (BSSA) foundation have been at the forefront of such efforts, through the Faranani Rural Women Training Initiative.

This year, as 198 women graduated from the programme, it marks another milestone in the journey towards economic empowerment and gender equality.

The training initiative, spearheaded by the two entities, is designed to unlock the business potential of rural women, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to not only generate their income, but also to become significant contributors to South Africa’s economy.

The focus is on building confidence, fostering entrepreneurship, and instilling a sense of agency among the participants.

The graduation ceremony for the women was held at PwC’s office in Waterfall on July 4.
The event was a grand affair, with esteemed speakers such as BSSA CEO David Mashamba, PwC Southern Africa CEO Shirley Machaba, and Nomvula Makgotlho, chief director at the Department of Small and Local Business Development, gracing the occasion.

Machaba’s dedication to this cause underscores the firm’s ethos of using its resources for the greater good.

As the women received their well-deserved certificates, it was not just a personal achievement, but a collective step towards a more economically empowered and gender-inclusive society.
