Attacq plants the seeds for a sustainable future with the Green Seeds Competition
The event proved to be fertile ground for ambitious ideas addressing pressing challenges in South Africa’s evolving socio-economic landscape.
The inaugural Green Seeds Competition represents a significant step in Attacq’s commitment to positively impacting communities and the environment.
This initiative underscores Attacq’s focus on integrating sustainability and social impact into its core business principles, reflecting a purpose-driven approach to environmental, social, and governance strategies.
In collaboration with Property Point, the competition serves as a platform for entrepreneurial ideas that challenge traditional thinking and reassess sustainability in the property sector.

Using a Dragons’ Den-style format, participants pitched innovative solutions tailored to Attacq’s operational needs instead of merely submitting profiles. The goal was to inspire creative thinking and develop scalable ideas to transform how Attacq builds, manages, and sustains its properties.
Property Point founder Shawn Theunissen said, “Our goal is to foster inclusive growth and long-term value for the industry by enabling entrepreneurs to create environmentally conscious and impactful solutions.”
Over several months, the competition unfolded in stages, requiring persistence and creativity from participants. Participants had 15 minutes to impress the judges, with finalists refining their pitches through deeper research to ensure scalability, sound business models, and measurable impact. The competition not only highlights innovation but also creates opportunities.

The winning entrepreneur received a R50 000 equity investment to further develop their idea and the chance to pilot their solution at Attacq’s properties. Additionally, Attacq is exploring ways to integrate these solutions into its supply chain, enhancing their potential for long-term impact and creating new green jobs.
The competition concluded with a finale at Waterfall City, where three finalists presented their ideas to judges and an engaged audience.
Danny Vermeulen, human capital and transformation manager at Attacq, noted that by merging social impact with business innovation, the Green Seeds Programme serves as a launchpad for entrepreneurs. “It provides the skills, guidance, and green economy expertise needed to foster sustainable solutions within our industry,” he explained.
The inaugural competition’s winner Josephine Sidambe, managing director and co-founder of Ingqwele Consulting and Project Management, emerged as a visionary leader. Her market-ready approach to sustainability highlighted the programme’s success in driving transformative solutions.
“Together, we are planting the seeds of tomorrow’s innovation today,” concluded Vermeulen.
