U20 preliminary squad calls up Supersport United Academy midfielder for FIFA World Cup

Noordwyk midfielder Lazola Maku says representing his country at any competition, be it International, continental, or local, is always a privilege.

Midfield sensation Lazola Maku (17) has been named in coach Raymond Mdaka’s U20 Amajita preliminary squad for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

The Supersport United Academy midfielder from Noordwyk played a pivotal role during the Africa Cup of Nations U20 championship, held in Egypt earlier this year, having a man-of-the-match performance against Zambia during the tournament. Now, Lazola is rearing to make the same impact in the world cup squad, while juggling his academics.
The Grade 12 learner at Noordwyk Secondary School is busy with preliminary exams, followed closely by finals.

“Being part of the preliminary squad is an achievement,” said Lazola, “because it shows that you are in a pole position of ultimately making the final squad. So, it’s a blessing to be part of the preliminary squad.”

The teenage sensation, who plays as both attack and defence in the midfield, says it’s a privilege to represent his country at such a young age.
The FIFA U20 World Cup kicks off on September 27, and will run until October 20.
