High-octane action at the 8th annual Festival of Motoring at Kyalami

Engines roared and families cheered as the Festival of Motoring 2025 turned Kyalami into a high-octane playground, delivering supercar thrills, superbike action, and over 10 000 test drives in one unforgettable weekend.

Engines roared, tyres screeched, and the scent of burning rubber clung to the air as the 8th annual Festival of Motoring (FoM) transformed the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit into Johannesburg’s ultimate playground for petrol heads. From August 29 to 31, thousands of enthusiasts poured through the gates, each eager to taste the speed, style, and spectacle that has made this event South Africa’s premier motoring lifestyle showcase.

This wasn’t just a car show; it was pure theatre on tarmac. The deep growl of V8s blended with the sharp crack of downshifts, while the air vibrated with the cheers of wide-eyed fans. Families wandered between exhibits, children tugging at steering wheels with dreams of their own, while adrenaline seekers strapped in for the kind of hot laps that make your pulse race faster than the speedometer.

The debut of the Vilaca Racing Ultimate Car & Driver Challenge raised the stakes, while the Sunbet ZX10 Masters Cup superbikes carved through the circuit with breathtaking precision. Sim racing rigs buzzed with gamers chasing glory, and futuristic car tech gave a glimpse of what tomorrow’s roads might look like.

Every turn of the track revealed something new. Santam’s premium suite and adventure zone kept the tempo high with hospitality and interactive experiences, while BMW and Simola Hillclimb delivered hot-lap thrills that left even the most seasoned petrol heads grinning from ear to ear.

With more than 100 exhibitors showcasing everything from cutting-edge performance parts to lifestyle luxuries, the festival offered something for everyone – whether your heart beats to the rhythm of revs or you just came for the food trucks and sunshine.

Yet beyond the noise and spectacle, it was the sense of community that defined the weekend. Kyalami became a place where strangers bonded over horsepower, where old friends reunited trackside, and where kids sat in the cockpits of cars worth more than a house, with eyes as wide as the circuit itself. Over 10 000 test drives were clocked across the three days – each one a chance to live out a fantasy to grip the wheel and feel the kind of magic that only motoring can deliver.

The FoM wasn’t just another event; it was a symphony of speed and spirit. A love letter to the machines that move us and the people who adore them. Fuelled by adrenaline, laughter, and the raw soundtrack of roaring engines, it cemented its place as the crown jewel of South Africa’s motoring calendar.

For some, it was about chasing the rush of speed. For others, it was about family, memories, and connection, but for everyone, it was proof that cars are not just metal and mechanics; they are emotion, freedom, and passion on wheels, and this past weekend at Kyalami, that passion was everywhere.
