G20 summit triggers rolling road closures and delays across Midrand highways
Motorists in Midrand face intermittent lane restrictions and escorted motorcades on the N1 and major routes until Sunday as world leaders gather for the G20 summit.

Commuters travelling through Midrand can expect ongoing traffic disruptions this weekend as heightened security measures for the G20 summit continue until November 23.
Rolling road closures and lane restrictions are in place on key highways, particularly the N1 between Midrand, Pretoria East, and Centurion. No full static closures are in effect today, but partial lane reductions and sudden stops for official motorcades are occurring intermittently throughout the day and into the evening.

All major interchanges in the greater Midrand area are affected, with the worst disruptions reported on the N1 North and South between Allandale and Buccleuch interchanges, as well as links to the N3 and M1 via major junctions and access points around Grand Central Airport and the Waterfall precinct.
Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, or use alternative routes such as the R511 (William Nicol Drive/Winnie Mandela Drive) or the M39 (Kruger Drive) where possible.

Real-time updates are available via JMPD and Sanral social media channels. The security operation will remain in place until the summit concludes on Sunday evening.
Drivers are reminded to stay patient, follow instructions from traffic officers on scene, and avoid stopping to photograph official convoys.
