Rabie Ridge residents sweat it out at city’s free aerobics session

Over 100 locals joined the lively aerobics session at Rabie Ridge Stadium, with children and adults enjoying fitness, fun, and a splash at the local pool afterwards.

About 102 locals turned out at Rabie Ridge Stadium on February 7 for the City of Johannesburg’s Region A sports and recreation healthy lifestyle programme, joining in a lively aerobics session that brought together residents of all ages.

The session, part of the city’s ongoing Region A aerobics calendar, was marked by energy, laughter, and a strong sense of community. Many attendees, both children and adults, continued the fun with a refreshing swim at the Rabie Ridge pool afterwards.

This event marked the third in a series of bi-monthly sessions, following successful gatherings at Busy Corner on January 17 and Diepsloot Mall on January 24.

Mandla Mahlangu, assistant director for sports and recreation in Region A, said that the sessions were open to all and free of charge.

“There is a running calendar, and everyone is welcome regardless of background… It’s a free entry, part of the City of Johannesburg’s service delivery. It’s a happy space full of joyful moments and sweating,” said Mahlangu.

Local aerobics groups and clubs lead the sessions, offering expert instruction and ensuring beginners feel comfortable.

He also emphasised the importance of community support, noting that resident participation gives the programme legitimacy and helps promote a healthy lifestyle.

The next sessions are scheduled for Ya Rona Mall on February 21, followed by Mayibuye Primary School on March 7, replacing the previously planned Nissan Midrand venue.
