Newly appointed Glen Austin acting principal has big academic plans for the school
Hennie du Toit, newly appointed acting principal, says he looks forward to leading GAHS, together with his team, and ensure academic achievement.
“I feel privileged and honoured to have been appointed as the acting principal of Glen Austin High School (GAHS),” said Hennie du Toit.
He said he values the trust that the executive board has placed in him to take over the leadership of the school.
Du Toit has a long history with the school, having served as HOD from 2017 and deputy principal from 2019. He has been appointed the acting principal for a ‘determined period’. Du Toit takes over from Berthold Moyo, who had been the school principal from 2018 to 2023.
He said he looks forward to leading GAHS, together with his team, to ensure academic achievement, continuity, good results in the 2023 National Senior Certificate for matric learners and improved registration numbers for the 2024 academic year.
“Together with my management team, we will continue to strive to improve academic performance, not only for Grade 12 learners but all learners. We will do this in line with our vision and mission – a holistic approach so that learners can reach their full potential, not only academically, but also as well-rounded and balanced individuals,” said du Toit.
“We also are working closely with the board to improve facilities, including solar power implementation and improved security systems. I strongly believe in constructive discipline that is corrective by nature and instils self-discipline which leads to good morals and values. I want learners to complete their high school careers here at GAHS not only with academic knowledge but also knowledge about life itself.”
This year, saw the school reach its highest registration figures since opening in 2014 and with the leadership of Du Toit, Glen Austin High School will increase its presence as a leading independent school in the region.
Asked what will his message be to the parents of the learners since he now occupies the top position, he said, “The school will always strive to provide the best education for your child. We encourage parents to be involved in this process by engaging with their children and being actively part of their school careers. I want to assure parents that we will always have the best interests of the learners and parents at heart.”
