Curro Midrand Halfway Gardens School’s senior softball team takes it home in the JSA Top Schools Softball Tournament
The hard work of the senior girls softball team at Curro Midrand Halfway Gardens has finally paid off, giving them the opportunity to compete at the Gauteng Softball Championship in October.
On March 15, the U12 and U13 senior girls, alongside their U10 and U11 junior counterparts, from Curro Midrand Halfway Gardens School, participated in the Johannesburg Softball Association (JSA) Top Schools’ Softball Tournament, a day filled with fantastic teamwork, skill, and plenty of fun.
Softball is played in term one and term four, with seventeen schools affiliated with the JSA. They play in a league, where four teams compete against each other in pool matches, in order to determine who will move to the next round.

Grade 4 mathematics and English teacher Lauren Munro said: “Success in softball goes beyond athleticism and mastering fielding, hitting, and throwing. A winning team must also grasp the strategic side of the game, stay focused, think ahead, and work together.”
Having emerged as champions in the top school’s tournament, the senior girls will compete in the Gauteng Softball Championships in October.

JSA chairperson Gayle Blomeyer said: “We had a great top schools tournament on Saturday. A big thank you to all the teams that participated. The improvement shown at schools is very encouraging.”
Emerging as champions in the JSA has led the seniors of Curro Midrand Halfway Gardens School feeling confident. With their team spirits lifted, they’re ready to compete in October.
