Crimes statistics say Midrand Police Station ranks among top nationally for vehicle crime
The latest quarterly statistics place the local precinct high for vehicle-related offences, despite decreases in several other serious crime categories.
Midrand Police Station continues to feature prominently in national and provincial crime statistics, ranking among the highest stations in several serious crime categories with increases in some crimes affecting motorists and residents.
The figures were announced by acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia, deputy ministers of police Cassel Mathale and Dr Polly Boshielo, and acting national commissioner of police Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane during the release of the quarterly crime statistics in Pretoria on August 28.

The statistics cover crimes reported during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, from April to June 2026.
In the category of community-reported serious crimes, Midrand Police Station ranked fifth nationally and second provincially, recording a 0.9% decrease compared with the previous reporting period. Ivory Park Police Station, meanwhile, ranked 15th nationally and sixth provincially in the same category, although it recorded a 9.2% increase.
Ivory Park police station was the only local station to feature among the top-ranked stations for malicious damage to property. It ranked 16th nationally and first provincially, with the crime category increasing by 19.3%.
Theft out of motor vehicles remains a significant concern in the Midrand area. Midrand Police Station ranked fourth nationally and first provincially in this category, despite a 5.7% increase from the previous statistics. The station also ranked first provincially and fourth nationally for stock theft, which also recorded a 5.7% increase.

The figures highlight the continued challenges facing motorists and communities in and around Midrand, particularly in relation to property and vehicle-related crimes. However, Midrand recorded decreases in several other serious crime categories.
Other serious crime decreased by 4.2%, placing Midrand Police Station second nationally and first provincially. The station also ranked second nationally and first provincially for all theft not mentioned elsewhere, with the category declining by 4.2%.
Commercial crime similarly decreased by 4.2%, placing Midrand second nationally and first provincially. The station recorded the same 4.2% decrease in shoplifting, while ranking second nationally and first provincially.
The quarterly crime statistics provide an indication of crime trends across the country and are used by law enforcement agencies to assess crime patterns and inform policing strategies.
