Pinnacle College makes a clean sweep of the IIE-Vega VIBE Johannesburg regionals

This year’s IIE-Vega VIBE Johannesburg regional event saw 14 teams from eight schools deliver some impressive work on a marketing brief from Plat? Coffee.

Pinnacle College Kyalami secured second place in the recent Johannesburg regional round of IIE-Vega’s Vega Interschool Brand Experience (VIBE) – a national inter-school brand challenge where high schools tackle a real-world brief from a well-known brand.

Pinnacle College Linden took first place, while Pinnacle College Linden Team Two came in third. IIE-Vega hosts this annual competition across its four campuses in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and Pretoria, with regional winners competing for the national title.

The regional winners received a R7 000 Takealot voucher for their school and a R1 000 Takealot voucher for each team member. The second-place regional team received a R3 000 Takealot voucher for their school and a R500 Takealot voucher for each team member, while the third-place regional team earned a R2 000 Takealot voucher for their school.

This year, 14 teams from eight Johannesburg high schools participated: Crawford Lonehill, Fourways High School, Hoërskool Kempton Park, Hoërskool Roodepoort, Jeppe High School for Girls, My Tutor and Training Centre, Pinnacle College Kyalami, and Pinnacle College Linden.

Each team addressed a brief from Plat? Coffee, a growing speciality coffee business. The challenge was to help Plat? Coffee connect with younger customers through an innovative campaign, while also keeping its older clientele engaged.

Through initiatives like VIBE, IIE-Vega provides learners with experiences that expose them to brand building and real brand campaigns. The main objective is to continually invest in learners from surrounding schools by offering hands-on career guidance and insights into degrees in design, branding, and business.

Robin Samuels, head of student recruitment at IIE-Vega Johannesburg, commented that VIBE was an electrifying experience. “It was truly exciting to welcome such bright and curious learners onto our campus. Watching them thoughtfully engage with the challenges, witnessing their creative thought processes, and seeing the passion behind their presentations was nothing short of inspiring.

“The energy they brought lit up every space, and we are beyond proud to have been part of their journey. We can’t wait to see how they take this experience into the world, blending wisdom with creativity to make a meaningful impact.”

Each regional winner now advances to the national judging round, where a final winner will be selected based on their presentation and artwork.
