Summerhill Grade 2 is rising star in classical music

Seven-year-old Atarah Mujera was awarded the prestigious violin academy trophy for Best U8 String Player at the renowned Johannesburg Festival for the Advancement of Music.

Summerhill Preparatory School Grade 2 learner Atarah Mujera was recently awarded the violin academy trophy for Best U8 String Player at the Johannesburg Festival for the Advancement of Music.

Held in Saxonwold on June 22, and organised by the South African Society of Music Teachers (SASMT), the festival showcased young musicians across various genres. It provides a platform for musicians of all ages to showcase their talents, with categories including piano, violin, choir, and other instruments, offering opportunities for recognition.

Atarah, just seven, delivered a captivating performance on the violin that impressed the audience and earned high praise.

Despite her young age, she displayed remarkable poise, technique, and musicality beyond her years. Her performance was nothing short of amazing, standing out boldly among peers and older participants alike. The panel commended her stage presence and confidence, affirming that she is certainly a rising star in the world of classical music.

Her parents, and the Summerhill community, are proud of her dedication, discipline, and passion.

Her mother, Tinashe ‘Coach Tina’ Mujera, expressed pride in her grace and excellence on stage. “It’s inspiring to watch her light up on stage. We are incredibly proud of her achievement and how she carries herself with such grace and excellence.”
