Truck hijackers arrested in Midrand and Tembisa
The EMPD arrested two suspects and recovered stolen goods worth over R200 000 after a truck hijacking on the R21 Olifantsfontein.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Eastern Region Task Team officers arrested two male suspects, aged 36 and 37, in the Tembisa and Midrand areas on September 19 for truck hijacking and possession of stolen goods.
This followed reports of a hijacked truck carrying goods valued at over R200 000, which occurred on September 17 at the R21 Olifantsfontein off-ramp. Officers received information about the suspects’ whereabouts and proceeded to a residence on Porcelain Street in Midrand.

“Officers then moved to a second location in the Sithama section of Tembisa, where the second suspect was also arrested,” said Dlamini.
“During these arrests, stolen goods valued at over R200 000 were recovered, including law enforcement uniforms.”
The suspects are currently detained at the Tembisa and Midrand police stations, facing charges of truck hijacking and possession of stolen goods. They are expected to appear in court soon.
“Criminals impersonating police officers to carry out illegal activities, such as truck hijacking or robberies, will face severe punishment,” Dlamini added.
He also called on the public to be vigilant against individuals posing as police officers and to report any suspicious encounters.
