Johannesburg Roads Agency plans to widen some roads in President Park

Modderfontein, Stag, and Swart are among those in the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s Midrand Road Master Plan.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) HOD for regional operations, Khayalethu Gqibitole, said the agency was working towards widening some President Park roads.

He said this when asked about whether the agency would consider broadening some roads in the area, as it carries heavy traffic volumes, with most motorists, including taxis, using President Park as a shortcut to Midrand from various townships.

In his response, Gqibitole said that, as per the Midrand Road Master Plan, the plan makes provision for the future widening of Swart, Stag, and Modderfontein roads.

“We are in the process of securing the required road reserves for the future widening of the roads, as and when township applications in the vicinity of the roads are received. The timeframe associated with securing the required road reserves is, however, linked to township applications and available budget for construction. Once all the road reserves are secure,” said Gqibitole.

He said that while the agency was operating on a tight budget, they must also allocate funds fairly across all wards in the city to ensure that every community receives attention and service delivery.
