City Power shares safety tips ahead of Midrand meter audits
The meter audits are targeting Large Power Users and businesses in various suburbs and townships from October 27 to November 4.
As City Power’s Midrand Service Delivery Centre (SDC) embarks on meter audits for Large Power Users (LPU) and businesses, the entity has shared safety tips ahead of these audits.
The meter audits are scheduled from October 27 to November 4 in various suburbs and townships.
These include Halfway House, Noordwyk, Kyalami Park, Allandale, and Rabie Rabie Ridge.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said all customers within their supply areas must be properly metered, ensuring that they are paying for the electricity they use daily.
“LPUs and business customers who refuse meter audits leave us with no option but to disconnect their supply. A fine of over R30 000 will be imposed for three-phase connections, and additional reconnection fees and penalties may also apply. We urge customers to be cooperative and allow our metering technicians to complete their work efficiently,” said Mangena.
He said if no one is at the property, their technicians will leave a ‘No Access’ letter at the customer’s
premises with the contractor’s name and contact details.
In addition, the SDC’s name and the team leader’s contact details will be provided for verification of the details left.
He said customers are urged to make arrangements for the audit immediately and within the specified audit period.

“City Power is also aware of the safety concerns during this process, as criminals could take advantage by presenting themselves as our employees or contractors. We urge customers to verify the credentials of City Power employees and contractors by contacting our Security Risk Management Control Room, their SDC, or by checking with their ward councillor to confirm if any work is scheduled in their area,” added Mangena.
He said all City Power employees and contractors are required to carry and produce their official ID cards while on duty.
Mangena said these ID cards are colour-coded according to the different sections within City Power and display important identifying information, including:
- The photo and personal details of the employee or contractor
- The contractor’s verification number (badge number) and expiry date
- A firefly hologram for added security;
- Contact details for our Security Risk Management Control Room are on the back of the ID
cards for easy verification.
