Parents recalls good memories as they say goodbye to their 7-year-old son in Allandale View

The parents of Nsuku Mabunda recalled fond memories of their son during an emotional memorial service at Noordwyk Primary School, where Nsuku attended, and will be sorely missed.

The heart broken parents of Nsuku Mabunda shared emotional memories spent with their 7-year-old son, who died after falling into a pit in President Park.

Nsuku, a Grade 2 learner at Noordwyk Primary School from Allandale View, died in his uncle’s arms while being transported to the Ebony Park Clinic on October 10.

The school held an emotional memorial service on October 15, where his father, Windsor, described his son as a talkative person, and a big dreamer.

“I’ve lost a friend, because to me he was like a friend, not my son. In fact, at times, we would call each other friends. Nsuku told me a lot of things about what he wanted to do when he grew up.

Some days he wanted to be rapper, and on other days he wanted to be a businessman. He just never stopped dreaming. I remember him telling me that he doesn’t want to work for anyone, but himself.”

He said he was not himself after the untimely passing of his son, who he loved dearly.

“I am not feeling well, but I will be strong for him and my two remaining sons.”

Nosethelo Mntungwa, Nsuku’s mother, was very emotional as she said that her son had promised her a lot of things, including buying her house. “Nsuku was just 7-years-old, but his mind was of an adult wanting to make his family happy. I remember he once promised to build me a house and buy me a Bugatti. Who will do that for me now that he’s gone?”

She asked the question before breaking down in tears.

Noordwyk Primary School principal Lynelle Eloff said: “From 1 631 leaners, we are now 1 630. One less voice in the morning assembly, one less smile on the playground, but one life that will always be remembered.

The gap he has left is not just in a chair, or in a classroom, but in our hearts.”
