Councillor Ngoepe pleased with MMC Mgcina’s visit

Member of the Mayoral Committee Eunice Mgcina, together with JMPD officers, removed illegal structures during the visit.

Ward 92 councillor Charmaine Ngoepe has heaped praise on the recent community outreach programme led by Development Planning MMC Eunice Mgcina.

Mgcina visited traders outside Kaalfontein Corner Shopping Centre on October 31.

It’s not the first time Mgcina has visited Ward 92 following her July 2 oversight inspection in Glen Austin, where seven properties were found non-compliant.

Ngoepe stated that the purpose of the outreach was to educate legal traders while removing illegal ones.

“It was about a clean-up because we had to ensure that those illegal stalls/traders near Kaalfontein Shopping Centre were removed. We had various entities, and the [clean up] went very well. Among the services showcased were car licensing offerings and other key municipal services that residents often travel far to access,” said Ngoepe.

The removal was done together with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

She said Mgcina also inspected Illegal building, encroachment, where some people have built on top of critical infrastructure.

“Those were given notices to move voluntarily or they will be removed after their notices have lapsed,” added Ngoepe.

Mgcina said this enforcement action forms part of the city’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with by-laws.

“The city remains committed to promoting a safe, clean, and well-regulated trading environment for both formal and informal traders,” said Mgcina.
