Sector 3 Crime Forum ready for festive season safety

The forum's patrol co-ordinator Otto Ramokoka said they have plans to fight crime, which includes patrolling shopping centres in the sector.

The Sector 3 Crime Forum said it is ready to deter crime this festive period, and will work hard to ensure residents’ safety.

The forum encompasses suburbs like Noordwyk, Blue Hills, Crowthorne, and Country View, among others.

Patrol co-ordinator Otto Ramokoka said they are planning to patrol twice in a week, with a focus on shopping centres.

“We want to focus more on the shopping centres and malls around our sector, because that is where most crime tends to happen during this time of the season.

“Should there be a need, based on the planned patrols, we might have to conducts intelligence driven operations as well, maybe on Fridays. With these handheld radios, our communication will be improved during all our operations.”

Recently, the forum received a monetary donation from a donor, who requested to remain anonymous, which the executives used to buy five handheld radios.

Ramokoka said, at least 99% of communication will come through the radios. They’ll be a big help, since sometimes they lose suspects, due to network challenges or simply not having airtime to make calls.

He said the forum was in need of any donations, including torches, to help with visibility during night patrols, and bullet proof vests, among other things.

He added that the sector was also looking for more patrol volunteers who were keen to keep the various suburbs under the sector safe, and not those looking to score political points.

Public relations officer Michael Goh said the volunteers will be vetted before they can assume their patrolling roles.
