UPDATE: Gauteng police are on the hunt for suspects after shooting of two men in Carlswald

Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo is calling on any assistance from the public in discovering and apprehending the suspects in this crime.

Police have launched a manhunt after two men were shot and killed in Carlswald, in Midrand.

The shooting, on December 2, occurred on the corner of New Road and Barbet Street at approximately 11:10.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said it was reported that the victims were driving in a white Toyota Corolla when they were ambushed and shot at by about three suspects, driving an unidentified white sedan.

Masondo said both victims, who are aged 53 and 38, were certified dead on the scene.

The deceased were taxi owners from the Alexandra Taxi Association. “The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage, although it is suspected to be related to taxi violence as both victims are reported to be taxi owners.”

The police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could help with the investigation, or assist in the apprehension of the suspects, to call the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
