Barrett noted that SBV strongly condemns any form of violence and confirmed the company is co-operating fully with authorities as investigations continue.
SBV confirms that the employees were not on duty when the incident occurred, but cannot comment any further. “With the greatest respect for our employees’ families and their privacy, SBV does not publish the names of employees that have lost their lives, or have been involved in any incidents.”
The fatal shooting occurred in Halfway House, near Gallagher Convention Centre. According to authorities, the three security officers had been sitting together after knocking off duty at around 11:30 when an argument reportedly erupted.

Speaking on-site to Tembisa Online founder Mfanelo Dzanibe, Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said preliminary investigations indicate the altercation escalated quickly.
“Information at hand suggests the three security officers were sitting on this road, enjoying themselves, when an argument started. It is alleged that one of them [aged 36] took out a firearm and shot his two colleagues, [aged 29 and 31]. He then turned the gun on himself.” Paramedics declared all three deceased on the scene.
Masondo confirmed that police have opened two murder cases and an inquest docket. “At this stage, we are not sure what triggered the argument, but that forms part of the investigation. There were people nearby, and we will be taking statements from them.”
The shooting occurred near the Pan African Parliament precinct. Masondo noted that although police officers were in the area, the incident was already over by the time they reached the scene.
“Unfortunately, when they heard the gunshots, and went to the location, it had already happened, so there was no way they could have avoided it.”
Police investigations are continuing as authorities work to establish the circumstances behind the fatal confrontation.
