Copper thieves scatter as Ria Sebetsa Security gallops in

Thanks to quick thinking and a rapid tactical response from Ria Sebetsa Security, suspected cable thieves were forced to flee, leaving behind valuable copper cabling and damaged infrastructure in Vorna Valley.

Ria Sebetsa Security has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime, after its officers successfully disrupted an attempted cable theft in Vorna Valley during the early hours of January 5.

The incident unfolded along Harry Galaun Drive, when a vigilant patrolling officer from the local security company noticed suspicious activity near a nearby estate.

Recognising the potential threat to critical infrastructure, the officer immediately alerted Ria Sebetsa’s 24-hour control room.

A tactical response team was swiftly dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, the suspects fled, abandoning the operation before they could complete the crime. Ria Sebetsa Security CEO Danny Maduray said a thorough inspection of the area revealed large quantities of copper cabling that had already been removed.

The recovered copper cabling, believed to be of significant value, was secured by the security team. Midrand police were subsequently dispatched to the scene, and the damaged cabling infrastructure was handed over at the Midrand Police Station. A case was opened with Eskom.

“The value of the recovered cabling highlights the importance of quick reaction times and visible patrols in protecting critical infrastructure. Excellent work by our patrol and response teams for their alertness and swift action.”

An inquiry has been sent to Eskom spokesperson Amanda Qithi to confirm the case details. An update will be published once feedback is received.
