Young athletes light up Rabie Ridge Stadium at regional sports festival

The regional sports festival gave young athletes in Region A a chance to represent their neighbourhoods and chase a place in the upcoming city-wide competition.

City of Johannesburg Region A sports and recreation department brought energy, talent, and youthful determination to the forefront when it hosted its regional sports festival at the Rabie Ridge Stadium on February 21.

The festival, aimed at athletes aged 13 to 15, drew participants from across Region A, including Midrand, Greater Diepsloot, and Greater Ivory Park.

From early morning, the stadium buzzed with excitement as young athletes arrived in numbers, proudly representing their schools, clubs, and communities.

The event featured a variety of sporting codes, including swimming, girls’ football, netball, tennis, and volleyball. The festival forms part of a broader build-up to the city-wide sports festival, scheduled for March, where top performers from various regions will compete at a higher level.

Beyond the competition, the day was enriched by motivational talks from special guests, who encouraged the young athletes to remain focused, work hard, and use sport as a vehicle for personal growth and positive change.
