The boy child is crying, and the Midrand foundation is listening
After surviving suicide attempts, Brian Molapisane now dedicates his life to ensuring no young person believes their pain outweighs their purpose.
“No matter how challenging it gets, we will continue our efforts. Even if resources are limited, we will keep pushing forward. If we can save even one life or help redirect one boy, it is worth it.”
These remarks were made by Brian Molapisane, founder of the self-named foundation based in Noordwyk. The foundation has grown significantly since its establishment, yet the crisis facing young boys persists.

According to Molapisane, mental health challenges among young boys are one of the most overlooked issues in our communities. While parents often sign consent forms for their sons to attend mental health programmes, many do not return to explore the deeper questions surrounding their children’s emotional well-being.
Molapisane openly shared his own journey, having survived multiple suicide attempts. He made a life-changing decision to dedicate himself to ensuring that no young person feels that their situation is more significant than the gift of life. “No matter what you’re going through, suicide can and will never be the answer. Your life matters more than your circumstances,” he emphasised.
Since then, his mission has been to protect the boy child and normalise conversations around mental health. Philanthropy is challenging; society often expects community leaders to be perfect and consistently strong. However, those who serve are human too, and the work carries emotional and psychological weight.
Molapisane also advocates for sobriety and leads by example. Now 32 months sober, he encourages young people to choose clarity over escapism. “Be kind to yourself. Be kind to your mind,” remains his enduring message. As the demand for support continues to rise, the foundation is working to enhance its capacity.
Courses in introductory child psychology and managing social media addiction have been completed to better understand the challenges facing today’s youth. The influence of social media has intensified the mental pressure on children, and without proper guidance, many risk losing themselves in comparison and the pursuit of online validation.

The foundation actively collaborates with local schools to build confidence, discipline, emotional awareness, and purpose among learners. Support for the organisation has come from various entities, including RiseUp Hub SA, Pick n Pay Blue Hills, Engen Noordwyk, Exomarkets Broker, Noordwyk Secondary, Midrand Primary School, and the broader Midrand community. Nevertheless, the need continues to outstrip available resources.
Parents are encouraged to engage more actively in their children’s emotional lives, while businesses and leaders are invited to partner in building sustainable programmes. The community is urged to listen more deeply and respond more promptly.
