Midrand police applaud detective after double life sentence secured

Detective Sergeant Kgadima Lekgoba’s relentless investigation ensured justice was served for victims of murder and armed robbery across Midrand, Bramley, and Sandton.

The Midrand Police Station commends Detective Sergeant Kgadima Lekgoba for his meticulous investigation, which led to a convicted murderer and armed robber receiving two life sentences, and more than a century behind bars.

Lekgoba, who serves with the Johannesburg North District trio task team, and is attached to the Midrand Police Station detectives, was praised for his dedication and thorough case-building that ensured justice was served.

The accused, a 38-year-old foreign male, was arrested on July 27, 2023, following an intensive investigation into a series of violent crimes linked to cases in the Midrand, Bramley, and Sandton police stations.

In the Midrand case, the accused was convicted on multiple counts, including murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He received life imprisonment for murder, 15 years each for two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 15 years for unlawful possession of a firearm, and three years for unlawful possession of ammunition.

The investigation further linked him to a murder and robbery case registered at Bramley Police Station, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 15 years for unlawful possession of a firearm, and five years for unlawful possession of ammunition.

In a separate matter, connected to Sandton Police Station, the accused was convicted of possession of an unlicensed and prohibited firearm, as well as ammunition.

He was sentenced to 25 years for unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm, 15 years for unlawful possession of a firearm, and eight years for unlawful possession of ammunition.

In total, the accused received two life sentences and 131 years of direct imprisonment.

Midrand Police Station management expressed pride in Lekgoba’s outstanding work, describing the outcome as a significant victory in the district’s fight against violent crime.
