League title race wide open as crucial weekend fixtures loom

The Midrand Promotional League title race is heating up, and it is still anyone’s trophy to lift.

With the Midrand Promotional League 2025/26 season reaching its halfway mark, the battle for top honours remains finely poised, setting the stage for another action-packed weekend of local football.

Fixtures resume on March 22, with matches split between Midrand Titans AC and Rabie Ridge Stadium. The early kick-off will see Midrand Titans Academy host Kaalfontein DF at 09:00, while four more clashes will unfold at Rabie Ridge from 11:00 to 15:00.

Fans can look forward to a full schedule of fixtures, including T Wolves taking on Midrand United, Super Gauteng facing Hawks FC, Pothos meeting Real Super Stars, and Chloorkop Super Eagles wrapping up the day against Kwaito Football Club.

At the summit of the standings, Hawks FC continue to set the pace with 25 points from 10 matches. Despite an impressive run of eight wins, the log leaders were recently held to a goalless draw by Kaalfontein DF on March 15, their second slip after a dominant start that has seen them score 30 goals while conceding just seven.

Hot on their heels is Midrand United, who closed the gap after a perfect weekend. A solid 2–0 victory over Wanga FC lifted them to 23 points, with a record of seven wins, two draws, and just one defeat. United have also emerged as the league’s most disciplined defensive unit, conceding only three goals so far this season.

Kaalfontein DF occupy third place with 20 points, and remain the only unbeaten side in the league. Their confidence is high after denying Hawks maximum points, having recorded five wins and five draws in a consistent campaign.

The race for the top eight is equally competitive, with Pothos, Wanga FC, Real Super Stars, T Wolves, and Super Gauteng all vying for strong mid-table finishes.

At the other end of the table, the pressure is mounting. Midrand Titans, Chloorkop Super Eagles, and Kwaito Football Club are yet to find form, each struggling below the five-point mark as the threat of relegation looms.

With roughly 10 matches still to play, every point will be crucial in shaping both the title race and the fight for survival, making this weekend’s fixtures a must-watch for local football supporters.
