Community voices needed at crucial upcoming Midrand complex safety meeting

With crime trends under scrutiny, the Midrand Complex Forum calls on the community to take part in key safety discussions this April 18.

Midrand complex managers, trustees, stakeholders, and residents are invited to attend a crucial follow-up meeting of the Midrand Police Complex Forum, scheduled for April 18 at the police station.

The meeting, to be convened by the office of the Vispol commander, will focus on current crime statistics affecting residential complexes, improving coordination between police and communities, and the election of additional forum leadership.

This follows the successful re-establishment of the forum on March 18, where residents, complex representatives, and police officials gathered to revive the structure and elect a new committee aimed at strengthening safety efforts across Midrand.

At the inaugural sitting, Mpho Khoele was elected chairperson, with Koketso Time appointed as secretary. Additional committee members include Srikanth Mudili, Chris Naidoo, and Lerato Myaka.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming engagement, Time emphasised the importance of strong community participation.

“Community attendance is highly essential. The Complex Forum serves as a critical platform to strengthen collaboration between residents, body corporates, managing agents, private security companies, and SAPS,” he said.

“Active participation ensures that safety concerns, crime trends, and community challenges are addressed collectively.”

Time added that the success of the forum depends on unified community involvement, enabling better information sharing, coordinated responses, and proactive crime prevention strategies.

The agenda will cover key safety and operational matters affecting complexes across Midrand, including crime trends and intelligence updates within the precinct, strengthening partnerships between police, private security companies, and community stakeholders, and the election of additional forum leaders.

Residents are encouraged to attend and play an active role in shaping safer communities.
