Thuma Hope Foundation strengthens fight against hunger in local communities
Through its growing Plate Hope Initiative, the Thuma Hope Foundation continues to provide essential meals to vulnerable households, helping children stay focused in school and easing the burden on struggling families.
In many underserved communities across South Africa, access to daily meals remains a pressing challenge.
Rising to meet this need is the Thuma Hope Foundation, whose Plate Hope Initiative is making a tangible difference by providing nutritious meals to those most affected by hardship. Through its ongoing feeding programme, the foundation has become a vital support system for countless households.

The programme has grown into a lifeline for many communities, ensuring that children do not have to attend school or participate in learning activities on empty stomachs. Volunteers play a central role in the initiative, preparing and distributing meals while also fostering a sense of dignity, care, and belonging among beneficiaries.
“Our mission goes beyond feeding people,” said Midrand resident and founder Veronica Ragovan. “It’s about restoring hope, building community, and reminding every person that they are seen, valued, and supported.”
The programme relies heavily on community generosity, with donations and volunteer support forming the backbone of its operations.
Each meal served not only addresses immediate hunger but also contributes to improved concentration in schools, reduced household pressure, and stronger community cohesion.

As colder months approach, the foundation is preparing for its upcoming winter outreach campaign, Blankets of Blessings, which aims to assist vulnerable families by providing warm blankets and essential clothing.
Community members, businesses, and organisations are being encouraged to contribute in any way possible, whether through donations, volunteering time, or spreading awareness, to ensure that support extends beyond food relief to include warmth and comfort during winter.
“The Thuma Hope Foundation calls on individuals, businesses, and community groups to get involved… Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us reach more families in need.”
