Blue Hills Preparatory honours mothers

Blue Hills Preparatory celebrated Mother’s Day by making moms feel royal at a musical and picnic celebration.

Mother’s Day was celebrated in style at Blue Hills Preparatory, with mothers dressed in the theme: Mother’s Day royal.

The morning started with mothers being ushered into the school hall for the festivities, held to honour moms right before the actual day on May 10. Mothers were given cookbooks, with recipes for spaghetti bolognese, mac and cheese, peppermint tart, and many other tasty treats.

Grade 7 learner Thatohatsi Mokoena shared a highlight of the day. “When the mothers started dancing, I got so excited, because it showed that they were just going with the flow.”

The organising team, which consisted of the principal and the teachers, elaborated on the importance of celebrating moms for showing up at all times, and for the efforts they make to attend every big or small event that the school hosts.

Hurilichia Toerien, Grade R teacher and social team member, explained why the school hosts Mother’s Day celebrations every year. “We do this to celebrate any mother figure, not mothers only. We want to show them appreciation for being the strong women they are, for what they do for the children, and also for being part of our school.”
