Suspects flee with undisclosed cash after Ivory Park pharmacy ATM bombing

Police are investigating a group of heavily armed suspects who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after bombing an ATM and engaging officers in a shootout in Ivory Park.

Ivory Park police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects who made off with an undisclosed amount of cash following an ATM bombing at Khuya Pharmacy in Extension 13.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning of May 4, along Freedom Drive near Score, where suspects allegedly targeted the pharmacy in a coordinated business burglary.

According to Ekurhuleni district police spokesperson Captain Nelda Sekgobela, officers responded to the scene at about 01:50 after receiving reports of a burglary in progress.

“When they arrived at the scene, they were met with several gunshots from automatic rifles. They [the police] responded; during that battle, the suspects managed to remove the ATM from the pharmacy with an undisclosed amount of cash.”

The suspects reportedly fled the scene in an Isuzu bakkie. No arrests have been made at this stage, and no injuries were reported among police officers.

Police have since opened a case of business burglary and ATM bombing, and attempted murder of police officers. Sekgobela said investigations were ongoing.

Authorities are appealing to members of the community who may have information that could assist in locating the suspects to come forward. Tip-offs can be shared anonymously via the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
