JMPD nabs suspected fake officers during Midrand patrol

Alleged police impersonators caught red-handed in Midrand.

Two men were recently arrested in Midrand after allegedly posing as police officers in an attempt to rob a pedestrian.

The suspects were apprehended by JMPD officers during a patrol operation in Vorna Valley on May 17.

According to JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla, officers were patrolling along Allandale Road and Harry Galaun Road when they intercepted a VW Polo that had no registration plates and was displaying an expired temporary permit.

“The suspects had stopped and were attempting to rob a pedestrian on the sidewalk after falsely claiming to be police officers,” said Fihla.

The two suspects were immediately arrested and taken into custody.

They were detained at the Midrand Police Station, where a case docket for impersonating police officers and attempted robbery has been opened.

JMPD has urged residents to remain vigilant and to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a law enforcement officer.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
