The incident occurred at around 03:23 within a Midrand residential complex.

According to Midrand police acting station commander, Colonel Hoseah Mantji, officers responded to a 10111 call reporting a robbery in progress.

“Upon arrival, police found security officers and residents who indicated that the suspects had been caught inside the complex.

One suspect allegedly jumped over the wall and fled to a neighbouring complex, where security personnel on duty spotted and apprehended him before handing him over to police,” said Mantji.

During the incident, two vehicles within the complex were damaged. Mantji said the suspects, both from Soweto, briefly appeared in court on April 28 and were remanded in custody to allow for further investigation. They are expected to return to court on May 8.

Mantji commended the swift response and collaboration between private security teams and residents, noting that such partnerships are crucial in tackling crime in residential areas.

“We encourage communities and stakeholders to continue working together to combat property-related, contact, and commercial crimes in Midrand.

All thanks to the security companies that assisted; together, we can reduce crime levels,” he concluded.
