Emeris Waterfall’s law graduate surprised by friend’s public show of pride
Emeris Waterfall's Class of 2025 graduation was filled with memorable moments, but one friend's public show of support left a lasting impression on graduates and guests alike.
Friendship stole the spotlight at Emeris Waterfall’s recent Class of 2025 graduation day when graduate Tadiwa Takaindisa was surprised by a proud and enthusiastic supporter in the crowd.
Among the more than 1 500 family members and friends gathered at the Indaba Conference Centre on May 13 to celebrate graduates crossing the stage was Takaindisa’s best friend, Owami Monaheng, a third-year IIE Bachelor of Commerce student, who arrived carrying a large personalised cheering sign dedicated to the newly qualified lawyer.

As Takaindisa, who graduated with an IIE Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, made her way across the stage, Monaheng’s show of support drew smiles, applause, and admiration from fellow graduates and guests, creating one of the most memorable moments of the ceremony.
Reflecting on her achievement, Takaindisa described graduation as the culmination of years of determination and perseverance.
“This achievement means so much to me. It represents years of hard work, sacrifices, late nights, stress, and a lot of perseverance,” expressed Takaindisa.
“There were definitely moments when I doubted myself, so finally graduating feels surreal and incredibly rewarding. Seeing Owami supporting me with the congratulatory sign at the ceremony honestly made my whole day, not to mention my year.
“I’m usually not someone who likes big public gestures or attention like that, so I would normally be the first person to hide from something like this, but it was so genuine and thoughtful that I could not help but laugh and get emotional at the same time.”

Takaindisa said the support she received from friends and family played a crucial role in helping her navigate the demands of studying law.

Looking ahead, the graduate plans to continue building her career in the legal profession by gaining practical experience and expanding her expertise. After graduation, Takaindisa has plans for continued growth in the legal field. She intends to gain practical experience and to keep building a successful career in law.
“I’m excited for what comes next, and I am ready for a new chapter. I encourage students to keep going, even when things feel difficult or overwhelming. There will be moments where you will doubt yourself, but don’t let that stop you. Lean on the people who support you, celebrate the small wins and trust that your hard work will eventually pay off.”
For Monaheng, the decision to bring a personalised sign was an easy one.
“I’m a loud supporter, and it was important for me to send a clear message to my friend that she has achieved her goals and should be proud of herself.
I’ve only known Tadiwa for a year, but I had the privilege of watching her cross the finish line with so much ease and grace,” said Monaheng.
