IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall Campus creates magic for female students

The female students were taken for a treat with nails, make-up, and massages.

The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall female students and staff celebrated Women’s Month in style on August 10.

The theme for the campus Women’s Month this year was Where there is a woman there is magic, which are words from American playwright and poet Ntozake Shange.

The campus social committee, career centre committee, student volunteer body, and sports committee created magic for all the female students.

This included nail and make-up stations, free massages, and cupcakes. Campus deejay Happiness was the cherry on top as he fed the students’ souls with good music.

Arya Moodley, a second-year Bachelor of commerce strategic management student and member of the career centre committee said, “This day gave me the time to reflect and celebrate the progress we have made and achieved as women throughout history and the particular roles we play in today’s world, including on campus. The day made me feel valued, recognised, and appreciated.”

South Africa commemorates Women’s Month in August as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956, in protest against pass laws for women.
