Clayville cyclist takes on trail
MIDRAND – Local resident Peter Mabena took on the annual KAP Sani2c race from 14 to 18 May.
Local resident Peter Mabena completed his first KAP Sani2c adventure, which took place from 14 to 18 May.
KAP Sani2c is an annual biking trail from Underberg to Scottsburgh in KwaZulu-Natal, covering 265kms of farmland. Mabena said, “I’ve always been a lover of the outdoors and the race was an amazing chance to experience the wondrous countryside, while challenging myself.”
The Clayville resident had previously completed a gruelling three country trail in the Nedbank Tour de Tuli last year. “Following the race, I got prepared for the KAP Sani2c.
“This year was my first year and it was an incredible experience.”
Mabena said that the most challenging stage of the trail occurred on the first day when, during the 87km first stage, his riding partner dropped out due to an unforseen health complication. “So I went it alone. I had to pick myself and make my partner proud.”
Mabena said that the communal atmosphere during the race kept him going to the finishing line. “I was given so much invaluable support from the other racers. It was a real family on the trail. I’m definitely to do the race again next year.”
