The tournament was previously hosted in December last year where The Brothers team, led by Keshav Lutchman, took the title from United Stars, making them the target at this year’s event.

According to Midrand Cricket Club’s coach George Mukoki, the defending champions put up a fight against this year’s opponents: Ace’s. “The final was set as the tournament newcomers, Ace’s, became David to take on the dominant Goliath [The Brothers]. Ace’s batted first, setting a target of 88, almost a replica of their first encounter in the group games. The stage had been set,” Mukoki said.

The coach added that as in the previous tournament, The Brothers captain, Lutchman and Jordan King opened the batting. “The crowd was entertained by some big hitting courtesy of King as The Brothers took it to the last ball.

“As King smashed the fifth ball of the last over, he scored the minimum required individual score of 31, thereby enforcing an automatic retirement. For their last ball, Ace’s needed to defend three runs with a new batsman on strike.”
