Local soccer team appeals for sponsorship

MIDRAND – Midrand United Football Club are appealing to community members and local businesses to help their team with donations.

Midrand United Football Club is appealing to community members and local businesses to help them with donations.

Founder, coach and chief executive officer for the club, Morgan Moodley said he established the club in January 2018 but there was only a senior team. In 2019, because the community believed in the brand he decided to introduce junior structures.

Moodley added that the club now had teams from U7 to U17 as well as a senior division and one premier league squad.

He said their biggest achievement so far was when the senior team was promoted to the Development Soccer League.

Moodley added that on their path of growth as a club, they had faced big challenges because they had no sponsorship.

He said the club was growing every single year and even though members had to pay a subscription fee, the fee did not cover their operational expenses in full.

“We pay for the facility, referees, our teams’ affiliations to play against other clubs, and we travel the whole of Gauteng which gets costly. So I plead to businessmen and women in and around Midrand to assist us. If we can get sponsorship for our club, it would secure our club’s future,” Moodley said.

“Getting sponsorship would assist us to cover our affiliation for our whole structure which is around R35 000 and the transport fees per month which can amount to around R6 000 a month.”

Moodley added that as the head of sports for a local college he was exposed to talented children. As there were no clubs around, he decided to form one and nurture these young talented soccer players.
