Golf day assists school

Reddford House Blue Hills held a golf day fundraiser on 3 June at Blue Valley Golf Course in Midrand to raise funds for their matriculants and the school.
The event featured some of its sponsors and young golfers of the school. College head, Cathy George said because of Covid-19, many of their fundraisers involving learners had been restricted.

“So this was a parents initiative and they suggested we try a golf day. This was our first ever, so we jumped at the opportunity together with our parents, the matric students and college teachers and put together the event.
“The funds were basically going toward the matric students’ fundraiser because every year, either the Grade 11s or 12s raise funds toward their matric dance, jackets and all the things they do in matric. So instead of having our weekly cake sales, we try to organise social events. With all these restrictions it was very difficult. Therefore, we approached our parents who drove it and reached out to various people to sponsor the event.”

One of the school’s golfing legends in the making, nine-year-old Yieke Ajulu, who started playing golf when he was only two years old, was among those who participated in the day.
Yieke played with his dad and uncles. “They [dad and uncles] were throwing away things, golf putts and golf shots, so I was the one who was saving them. However, the two best scores counted. I was the first best score and my dad was the second-best score. I did very fine for a nine-year-old, it is a good experience,” he said.
