Coach ready to help youths

NIETGEDACHT – One of HeronBridge’s own rugby coaches will be joining the coaching staff at the Golden Lions Rugby Union youth rugby clubs.

A HeronBridge College rugby coach will soon be soon joining the coaching team of Golden Lions youth clubs.

Announced on June 26 by the Golden Lions Rugby Union, HeronBridge’s Masrour Ehrman will be a strength and conditioning coach for the clubs.

He has been with the school since 2014 and, since 2018, he has also been involved with the Northern Cats Club which is also based at HeronBridge.

“It is a huge honour and privilege to get the opportunity to work with the talent this country has to offer,” he said in reaction to the announcement.

Ehrman, who outside of rugby enjoys fishing and Formula 1, said there had been a shift in coaching players due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “There has definitely been a change in the typical coaching style. We’ve had to coach not only the physical within the Covid regulations, but also the psychological,” he added.

Since the country’s move to a strict Level 4 lockdown, matches and practices are unable to take place until July 22.

“We are unfortunately not allowed to train or have matches at the moment due to the current regulations. For now, we’re just waiting for President Cyril Ramaphosa to address the country again.”

In the future, Ehrman said he would like to be part of the coaching staff of Academy Week (an annual rugby tournament) or South African Schools Rugby or the national U18 team.
