Children’s mini-Olympics receives support
MIDRAND – Children between five and 14 years old took part in the games, which included an egg race, long-jump, relay, frisbee throwing and more.
More than 25 children at a complex in Noordwyk spent the last few days of their school holidays embroiled in fun and games at their mini-Olympics.

The fun-filled sporting session on October 9 was organised by Hope Fountain Combined School learner Chidalu Esther Udeh and her friend Mbali Ncube.

Chidalu said her love for sport inspired them to plan the mini-Olympics. “We came up with the idea in August while watching the Olympics, we decided to host our own version and have some sports fun together. We raised money and one of the parents helped us drive around, others provided food for the event and business sponsors helped us too,” she said.

Encore body corporate chairperson Nathi Makhathini said, “Collectively, R3 200 was received. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”

Waterfall City Athletics Club donated items including five drawstring bags, water bottles and a pair of sneakers. Club chairperson Kholofelo Masilela said when they received a letter from Udeh requesting collaboration, the club was eager to help. Masilela said, “We agreed to assist in whatever way we could, given our passion for the development of young talent in athletics.

“The club is very passionate about giving back. Through its development arm the club has established an incubation hub for junior athletes from a township in Springs.”
