Hawks 1-4 Diepsloot Arsenal: Easter Weekend adds to Hawks’ misery

The weekend added more to the team's ongoing struggles as they could not match Arsenal's dominance due to a shortage of key players.

Due to players playing tournaments over the long weekend, Hawks FC played their regional league match against Diepsloot Arsenal without their full squad and lost 4–1.

It can be an advantage for teams to participate in soccer tournaments over Easter but for some teams, it can be a real blow. For these tournaments, local coaches select players from various teams, such as Hawks, to form local squads that participate. Normally the league takes a break over Easter but not this year. According to Hawks coach Kenneth ‘Coach K’ Sithole, the weekend added to their ongoing struggles as they could not match Arsenal’s dominance at Safe Hub Sports Ground on April 8 due to the shortage of key players.

“The long weekend did us dirty because most often, the league games get paused and you will find players playing tournaments. It is more like a preseason but this year the league was still ongoing and players chose to attend tournaments.” However, Hawks redeemed themselves on April 10 when they shared the spoils 0–0 with their Midrand rivals, Super Rovers. Hawks drop to 12th position in the league table after 28 games.

Their next match is against sixthposition holders FC Barcenal at Jabavu Stadium on April 15.
