Upsets and surprises at the African Pride Games as new champs are crowned
Transitioning from its previous moniker, the LGBTI+ Legacy Games continued to build on the foundation of inclusivity and representation, driven by the partnership with the Phuti Lekoloane Foundation and the City of Johannesburg.
The African Pride Games, held at Rabie Ridge Stadium from September 28 to October 26, delivered an exciting tournament filled with surprises and recognition for participants.

012 Ayifuniwena FC, commonly referred to as ‘Tse Popota tsa Pitori,’ emerged as the new champions of the senior soccer category, making a significant mark in the tournament’s history. Young Pirates FC secured victory in the U23 division, showcasing the incredible talent and competitiveness among the younger players.

Johannesburg Central Netball Club defended their title in netball and Electric Ladies repeated their success in girls’ football.
Ayifuniwena made history by beating United Warrior 2–0 in the final on October 26, becoming the first Pretoria team to win the Pride Games trophy and earning R200 000. Young Pirates also celebrated their win against 21st Century, receiving R70 000.

This tournament, previously known as the LGBTI+ Legacy Games, continues to thrive through a valuable partnership with the Phuti Lekoloane Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Johannesburg.
