Midrand Local Football Association chairperson says the season will commence on January 4

Sthembiso Buthelezi, the youngest and most innovative association chairperson, says they will partner with Pitso Mosimane Schools.

The Midrand Local Football Association (MLFA) chairperson Sthembiso Buthelezi described the first half of the 2024/25 campaign as challenging.
Buthelezi said the start of their junior league season had been disrupted due to games played at their home ground, Rabie Ridge Stadium, by clubs that were not affiliated with the association.

“And I am happy that despite all this, we managed to finish our men’s league season which was won by Vossies FC who got promoted to the Safa Johannesburg Hollywoodbets Regional League. In the ladies’ league, we hope Super Midrand Ladies Academy wins our senior ladies’ league and also gets promoted to the regional league as well. The highlight was when we welcomed teams from Midrand – Midrand United FC and Total Excellence Football (TFE),” said Buthelezi.

Buthelezi added in the new year, they were looking to launch the MLFA Academic League which will be bigger than their stream league.
“We will also be welcoming Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools [PMSS] as part of our partners. PMSS together with league members, will be offering assistance with the development of a grassroots league for players aged 5 to 9. Further, we will be officially launching the Bob Maredi Legacy Cup for both men’s and ladies’ senior league which will take place early next year.”

Maredi was the former and longest-serving chairperson of the MLFA since its inception in 2006. In 2022, Buthelezi was elected the youngest-ever chairperson to serve the association.

“I wish to take this opportunity and thank all our executive members and our partners VumaTell and Cell C for their ongoing support of our programmes. And lastly, to thank all our members who make sure that they continuously support us – thank you,” concluded Buthelezi. MLFA’s season will resume on January 4.
