African Pride Games heat up as semifinal battles loom

The quarterfinals of the African Pride Games produced drama and heartbreak, setting the stage for the upcoming, thrilling semifinal weekend.

The action is intensifying at Rabie Ridge Stadium as the African Pride Games enter the semifinal stage, following an electrifying round of quarterfinal clashes on October 25 and 26.

Defending senior champions 012 Ayifuniwena remain in contention to retain their crown – joined in the semifinals by Rinkase Best 11, Covid FC, and GwaraGwara FC – setting up what promises to be a thrilling showdown among some of the tournament’s toughest sides.

In the U23 division, the race for glory has narrowed to four teams – Mudagasi, 21st Century, Manthwaleng Shakers, and Skepe Nketole FC – after a weekend of tense matchups that had fans on their feet.

The quarterfinal drama began with Manthwaleng Shakers staging a comeback to edge out Mzimba Shakers 2–1.

Defending champions Young Pirates were knocked out in a shock result as Skepe Nketole FC, nicknamed ‘The Chopper Boys’ for their flamboyant arrivals, claimed a 1–0 victory.

21st Century advanced after a nail-biting 5–4 penalty shootout win over Covid 19 FC, following a 1–1 draw in regular time, while Mudagasi sealed their semifinal place with a 2–1 victory over Money Heist.

The senior division proved equally intense. GwaraGwara FC edged Bakone Ba 3–2 on penalties, while Ayifuniwena showed nerves of steel to defeat Gunners 4–2 in a shootout after a goalless draw.

Covid 19 FC also advanced after a 4–3 penalty win over The Rock, while Rinkase Best 11 cruised through 4–1 on penalties against Mbhidzo FC.

With the competition reaching its climax, all eyes are now on the semifinals, scheduled for November 1, ahead of the grand finals on November 2.

In the U23 semifinals, Skepe Nketole FC will lock horns with Manthwaleng Shakers, while Mudagasi takes on 21st Century in another promising clash.

The senior semifinals feature a highly anticipated Pretoria derby in Midrand, as Rinkase Best 11 faces Ayifuniwena, followed by a powerhouse duel between GwaraGwara FC and Covid 19 FC.

Adding to the excitement, the ladies’ division will also see action with Mito Stars taking on Maleka Ladies, and FC Electrical set to face Asijiki FC.
