A carols by candlelight night
MIDRAND - Jacaranda FM and Spar hosted two Carols by Candlelight evenings to celebrate Christmas.
The Midrand-based radio station’s spokesperson Claire Jackson-Bernardo said the events were held “to give the station’s listeners an opportunity to get together as a family to bring festive cheer to underprivileged children”.
She said the events were hosted at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate where 5 500 people attended, and at Super Sport Park in Centurion where 25 000 people filled up the stadium.
“Entrance was free but guests were encouraged to bring a wrapped toy to be donated to underprivileged children in homes across Johannesburg and Pretoria,” she said. “A total of 416 boxes full of toys were donated by listeners at both events.”
Old and new Christmas carols were performed by South African artists Nadine, Kurt Darren, Khaya, Jay, Nianell, Matthys Maree, Connell Cruise and Mzansi Youth Choir. Jacaranda FM presenters were also there to spread the cheer and fun.
The events raised R146 000 from songbook and candle sales. All proceeds will go towards the Jacaranda FM Good Morning Angels Fun initiative.
